A beautiful, peaceful spot, despite its proximity to the busy business district of Shimbashi. I’d gazed down on it a hundred times from the towers of commerce, and finally took a chance to pay it a visit. And… relax…

Japanese culture has over the years, frustrated, bemused and alienated me with its inscrutable (and at times annoyingly scrutable) wrongheadedness. It’s also drawn, disarmed and endeared me with its quirkiness. Today’s example is the way the statues in this park’s lovely rose garden are supplied with lovely woolly hats in the colder months.
